Before moving on from this weekend, we wanted to share some more photos of Griffin as Aunt March in her Advanced Drama class’ production of Little Women. Griffin worked hard on the role and even improved through the performances after a strong start. She amazed people with her singing ability and her part was very funny. She did learn that her part was one of several cut to make the two and a half hour play fit into the 45 minutes alotted for a one-act play competition, so the weeknd shows close out her time as Aunt March.

Griffin’s best friend Kalyn (at right) as Beth. They were not close to each other in the scenes they shared, but we had to get Kalyn in too.

Camden County High School’s Advanced Drama class held the high school world premiere of Oler, Hubbard & Hartley’s musical version of Little Women. Griffin plays the matriarch, Aunt March. In Griffin’s main song for the show, she teaches the character of Jo the finer points of how to be a lady. The most succinct piece of advice she offers her tomboyish niece Jo comes at the end of the song when she says, “Don’t be you!” Griffin got a great reaction from the crowd on this song and her other parts throughout the show which plays through Sunday afternoon.
You’ll hear more about this play later as they will cut it down to a one act play for competition in the State One Act play contest. In the meantime, enjoy these photos and click on any of them to see a full screen version of the picture.

Griffin’s best friend Kalyn plays the first murder victim.
Griffin played Brandy Reporter, the crime-solving reporter who worked with the restaurant hostess to unravel the clues and solve the murders taking place during a high school graduation party.
The Advanced Drama Class wrote and performed the play, and served the food as well for the fund-raising dinner. The plot twisted and turned through a high school and revealed a rigged election for class president, an SAT cheating scandal, a stolen necklace, and a tangled web of relationships within the student body.

Griffin is acting this weekend in the Camden County High School Drama department’s production of Harvey, the comedy by Mary Chase. Griffin plays Nurse Kelly.
Throughout the play, the men keep talking about how beautiful she is and she takes it all in stride (while keeping one eye on Dr. Lyman Sanderson, who is clearly her interest). The play is very funny and Griffin got some big laughs for her part in it.
There will be a show tonight and then a matinee on Sunday. Then next weekend, Griffin will play in a murder mystery dinner theatre and the following week she’ll appear in a musical version of Little Women.

Griffin was given the part of Nurse Kelly in the Camden County High School production of Harvey which is a main stage production for the school (the part of Aunt March is for State One Act Play competition). So she is two for two in getting big parts in plays this year. These will be the two shows she’ll work on during Fall Semester, a musical and a comedy.

Griffin just learned that she has been cast as Aunt March for the upcoming One Act musical play Little Women. She’s excited as it was her role of choice for the production.
They’ll perform the play here and then in regional one-act play competition. If that goes as well as recent years she will get to perform it in state competition, but that will depend on their performance.

The video above is one Frank made with Wallace Marsh in place of a talk on the Sacraments. The teens come across well in this video, which follows the earlier one from Cursillo: Sacraments video.

Coming off a full week that started with a funeral for a six-month old, I headed into an even fuller weekend as a spiritual director for Happening #81.
Happening is a youth retreat led by teens for teens and as a priest I was there for support and to give some talks and lead some worship, but in a supporting role. I also got to serve alongside Griffin (pictured above at right next to her best fried, Kalyn) and to once again appreciate what a wonderful woman she is becoming. The photo here is of Griffin giving a talk called “Please Listen to What I’m Not Saying” about the masks we wear in which she pulled off layers of clothing marked with labels for masks like “artistic” and “cool” and asked people to see beyond the facade to the real person beneath.
Griffin served on the entertainment team and led games and then filled in elsewhere, helping wash feet at the foot washing, giving a talk, reading a long scripture reading (very well) at the closing service and more. I don’t know how she continues to amaze me or why it is such an ongoing revelation, but I know that Griffin is a delight to be with and a joy to watch. I know I am biased by being crazy in love with her, but I just didn’t want this amazing weekend to go unremarked.
love,
Frank (Griffin’s Papa)

On Monday, we finished our big renovation project in a 12-hour work day which included grouting the shower surround (work, but easy) and changing out Griffin’s bathroom faucet (easy, but turned into a big 2-hour ordeal when a pipe broke off in the wall. It’s all done and we both used the shower today. It was not only lovely, but roomier thanks to a shower curtain rod that sweeps out wider than the tub.
It was a long 15-day project with a satisfying conclusion in a nicer master bedroom and master bath for our house.
